{"id":584,"date":"2016-10-17T10:00:28","date_gmt":"2016-10-17T08:00:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/sloveniaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/?post_type=news&#038;p=584"},"modified":"2026-05-19T15:26:10","modified_gmt":"2026-05-19T13:26:10","slug":"grand-master-order-of-malta-receives-the-president-of-slovenia","status":"publish","type":"news","link":"https:\/\/sloveniaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/en\/news\/grand-master-order-of-malta-receives-the-president-of-slovenia\/","title":{"rendered":"The Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta Receives the President of the Republic of Slovenia at the Magistral Palace"},"featured_media":0,"menu_order":0,"template":"","class_list":["post-584","news","type-news","status-publish","hentry"],"acf":{"hidden_news":"no","evidence":"yes","focus_on":"no","breaking":"yes","news_cover":{"id":560,"url":"https:\/\/sloveniaembassy.orderofmalta.int\/wp-content\/uploads\/sites\/10\/2026\/05\/image-2.jpeg"},"cover_image_copyrighted":false,"news_content":"<p>The Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Malta, Fra\u2019 Matthew Festing, received the President of the Republic of Slovenia, Borut Pahor, on an official visit today.<\/p>\n<p>After the guard of honour in the courtyard of the Magistral Palace, President Pahor and the Grand Master held a meeting in which both stressed their desire to strengthen cooperation in the health and social care sector.<\/p>\n<p>In this regard, the possibility of signing a bilateral agreement was discussed, also in view of the Grand Master\u2019s official visit to Ljubljana in early 2017 to celebrate 25 years of diplomatic relations established in 1992.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cToday\u2019s visit marks another milestone in the history that links the Republic of Slovenia to the Order of Malta, dating back to the early 13th century when the Order\u2019s first commenda was created near Maribor,\u201d the Grand Master said.<\/p>\n<p>During the talks, the issues of migratory flows and the worrying situation in the Middle East were also examined.<\/p>\n<p>The Order of Malta\u2019s national association in Slovenia is running assistance programmes for children with disabilities and for disadvantaged families.
