Blessing of the New Flag of the PGD Fire Brigade in Planina pri Rakeku

A large gathering of local residents, neighbouring fire brigades, donors, H.S.H. Prince Mariano Hugo Windisch-Graetz, the Mayor of the Municipality of Postojna, senior representatives of the Slovenian Fire Service, a high representative of the Civil Protection Authority, other donors, and numerous guests came together on Saturday, 9 June, in Planina pri Rakeku.

This year, the Planina Volunteer Fire Brigade (PGD Planina) celebrates the 130th anniversary of its foundation. On this occasion, the association unveiled its new ceremonial flag. In addition to Prince Windisch-Graetz, honorary ribbons were also added by other donors from Planina.

In keeping with the traditions of Slovenian heritage, the firefighters arranged for the blessing of the new flag. In the presence of the local parish priest, the blessing was performed by local resident Dr. Stanislav Matičič.

The Windisch-Graetz family has long been a great benefactor of Planina and its firefighters, generously supporting their work since the very beginning. The association’s first flag was financed and commissioned by Princess Windisch-Graetz, and the same is true today for Mariano Hugo Prince von Windisch-Graetz, who is also the current Ambassador of the Sovereign Military Order of Malta to the Republic of Slovenia.

He is a great friend of Slovenia and Planina, and a supporter of charitable causes and humanitarian foundations around the world, especially of the local firefighters.

The celebration of the 130th anniversary continued with a well-organised public festivity. The venue for the event was kindly provided by Marijino delo on its estate.
